Oooh, Barracuda! Chrysler may revive iconic model name, USA Today, Nov. 4

Chrysler's design chief, who also happens to be boss of the Dodge brand, says he's seriously thinking of how to revive the Plymouth Barracuda, USA Today said.

"There's a lot of pressure on us to bring the 'Cuda back," Ralph Gilles said at the SEMA trade show. "The customers have been stomping their feet for it." One problem with Barracuda is that its parent brand, Plymouth, doesn't exist anymore, the paper said.

Trucks fuel gain in U.S. auto sales, Detroit News, Nov. 3

Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler Group LLC were the big winners in October, as strengthening demand for light trucks boosted U.S. auto sales to their highest level in more than a year, the Detroit News said.

For the second month in a row, light truck sales exceeded car sales, capturing 52.8 percent of the market, the highest level in three years, analysts said, the News reported.

Compared with October 2009, monthly sales were up 13.4 percent, led by a 23.5 percent surge in light truck sales, the News said. Dodge Ram sales rose 41 percent last month as the market swung back to trucks, benefiting Chrysler, the article said.

Chrysler October sales up 37 percent, Automobile Magazine, Nov. 3

Chrysler sales are up 37 percent in October, with Jeep® outselling Chrysler, Dodge, and Ram, Automobile Magazine said. One thing's for sure: the new Grand Cherokee is hot, the magazine said.

The Jeep brand more than doubled sales from last October; every Jeep model except for the phased out Commander was up at least 46 percent, the
article said.

As revised 2011 Chrysler models head to dealerships, expect more sales increases company-wide and additional retail sales, the article said.

Dodge RedLine Charger unveiled to SEMA crowd, USA Today, Nov. 2

Chrysler just released its image-maker for Dodge to loads of attention -- it's the RedLine Charger, USA Today said.

The Charger gets a new elongated nose and other touches for 2011, the paper said. The revised version, shown at the
SEMA show in Las Vegas, is badged as a Charger R/T, a throwback to a 1970 Charger, the paper said.

But what everyone saw wasn't stock, but a customized RedLine version, the paper said. The RedLine version is lower to the ground with a tuned suspension; the 5.7-liter Hemi engine has been given a Mopar makeover, with headers, an exhaust
system and a cold-air intake; and there's a Mopar strut tower brace to aid handling and drivability, the article said.

Redesigned Jeep Grand Cherokee Outperforms Toyota 4Runner in Face-Off, Consumer Reports, Nov. 1

The redesigned Jeep Grand Cherokee midsized SUV earned a Very Good road test score and outscored its traditional rival, the Toyota 4Runner, which earned a Good score, in a face-off between the two vehicles in Consumer Reports' December issue.

The Jeep's ride, quietness, and interior won it points, though it was hampered by its emergency handling, the magazine said. By contrast, the 4Runner, redesigned for 2010, fell short on the road (though it showed terrific off-road prowess) and scored at the bottom of its class, the article said.

"The Grand Cherokee is a big improvement over the previous model, with refinement on par with models that cost a lot more," said David Champion, senior director of Consumer Reports' Auto Test Center in Connecticut.

2011 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara 4x4 - First Drive Review, Car and Driver, October

It?s the fanciest damn Jeep Wrangler you?ve ever seen, said Car and Driver after testing the 2011 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.

For 2011, all Wranglers get a new, more upscale interior in place of the previous assemblage of plastics, and the optional hardtop can be painted body color on Sahara editions like our test vehicle, the magazine said. It seems the Wrangler is all "growned up," the magazine said.

Piloting a
Wrangler has always had a charm all its own, and this 2011 is no different, offering more of a man-and-machine connection than just about anything else on sale today, Car and Driver said. This is a vehicle for people with adventure on their mind, even if it?s not on their agenda; it?s just that those folks now get to enjoy more modern amenities and quality interior materials, the article said.

2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 Inaugural Edition, Motor Trend, Nov. 2

For 2011, all Challenger SRT8 cars receive a number of upgrades, but none quite as substantial as the work performed within the engine bay, Motor Trend said. Chrysler's bored out the engine to a whopping 6.4 liters, which allows it to revive the heralded 392 cubic-inch displacement figure (first seen in the legendary 1957 300C), the magazine said. In this form, the overhauled Hemi is rated at 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, the magazine said.

To celebrate the extra power for 2011, Dodge is crafting what it bills as the SRT8 392 Inaugural Edition, the article said. Only 1492 examples will be produced, but each will wear one of two exterior color schemes, the article said.
